THREE DAYS / TWO NIGHTS MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK


Mgahinga national park is found in western Uganda at the border of Uganda, Rwanda, and democratic republic of Congo. The park is mainly famous for Gorilla tracking up in the volcanoes national park of mount muhabura, mount Gahinga, and mount Sabinyo which are among the eight volcanic mountains of the virunga conservation area.

The park was gazette in 1991 and covers 33.9km2 making it one of Uganda’s smallest national park. The park also composed of the bamboo forest that is the best food for the endangered gorillas and other animals mainly the golden monkeys and other primates. It also constitutes the albertine Montana forests  and moorland tree heaters. Before being gazetted as a game reserve in 1930 the locals mostly had encroached the park while turning it as gardens or crop fields mostly planting crops like the potatoes and sorghum, But later the authority chasing them away thus planting trees in 1989 and 1990 displacing them to the future generation.



You will be met by the company driver at your area of stay or airport who will driver you to south western part to mgahinga national park the journey will take around eight hours driving on the sealed road or tarmac/good roads that will leave you wondering that Uganda is relay extraordinary. On the way, you expect to see different bird species like , African people mainly women and children dressed in their beautiful coloring dresses called kitenges, digging/ cultivating in their gardens. View the ankole long horned cows of the western ankole people, the zebras and the impalas from the nearby/roadside lake Mburo national park. Have lunch in Mbarara town that is the second biggest city in Uganda. Proceed to the hills of kigezi region covered with terraces and potato plantation. Slope into the valleys of kisoro town until we arrive in kisoro town that is adjacent to mgahinga national park. On arrival, you will be able to view the mountains volcanoes, of virunga ranges, that make you to be assured of the actives to be done the following days. Dinner and overnight at kisoro travellers lodge, lake mulehe safari lodge, and volcanoes lodge.

DAY 2.

Early morning after breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for the golden monkey tracking. The monkeys are only unique animals/primates or monkeys that are found in the virunga region. They are many in numbers and mainly found in the bamboo forests and sometimes in peoples gardens or artificial eucalyptus tree species of the boundaries.

However since the park has many unique attractions or activities, it can be supplemented with other activities like hiking the famous volcanoes like mount muhabura 4127m, mount Gahinga 3473m, and mount Sabinyo 3645m. it can also be suplimented with Gorilla tracking as the park harbors mountain gorillas. The park has the largest or biggest gorilla group called “nyakagezi group” that comprises the silver back, babies, black backs, and the females. Come back for dinner and overnight
